House of Lords success!

Lords v Junior Bridge Teams – 3 July 2025

On 3 July 2025, the grand surroundings of the House of Lords played host to a prestigious youth bridge event: Lords v Junior Bridge Teams. Organised with the support of Baroness Blackstone, who graciously hosted the event, and Lords Hamilton and Caithness, who also treated the young players to tours of the Lords, the day was a celebration of youth talent and the enduring tradition of bridge.

The competition featured three junior teams:

· Haberdashers’ Boys’ School, winners of the Lords’ Trophy, represented by Nikhil Dewan, Holden Clark, Noaz Heymann, and Sam Akayan, coached by Stuart Haring.

· Yorkshire/Durham, comprising Berti Mittra, Bethany Mittra, Sophie Morris, and Levente Ungar, led by NPC Laura Morris.

· Junior International Invitation Team, featuring Harriet Cork, Dina Bennett, Raphaela Sinclair, and Lucy Norman.

Despite a strong challenge from the Junior International Invitation Team, who notably beat Haberdashers in their direct encounter, Haberdashers’ Boys’ School emerged as the overall winners.

The House of Lords team, including Baroness Blackstone, Lord Caithness, and Lord Hamilton, ably supported by Counsel J. Cooper, finished a commendable third, securing a victory in their final match.

The event was directed by Richard Croot (CEO of EBED) and Phil Godfrey (National Panel), ensuring the smooth running of the competition.

This memorable day not only showcased the rising stars of British bridge but also highlighted the continued commitment of the Lords to fostering youth engagement in the game.
