First EBED Autumn Simultaneous Pairs raises £15,000

The first EBED Autumn Simultaneous Pairs event was held over the week of September 8-12th 2014, raising close to £15,000 for English Bridge Education & Development. Almost 200 clubs up and down the country (as well as one Scottish club) took part in this first national fundraising event on behalf of the charity, boosting our efforts to promote the learning and playing of bridge across the community. An astonishing 1150 pairs contested the Monday heat of the event with Aileen Cunningham and Chris Stenning of Morpeth Bridge Club emerging victorious with an outstanding score of over 70% All participants were able to enjoy expert commentary on the deals, provided by internationally recognised top players, teachers and journalists such as ,Sally Brock, Brian Senior, Paul Bowyer and Mike Pomfrey.

The winners at every club taking part are entered into an EBU prize draw with generous prizes of up to £1000 per pair. A similar award is available to the clubs - with the winners for both draws being announced at the EBU AGM in November. More details of the prize structure can be found here.
