Bridge for All - A teaching programme devised for you

English Bridge Education & Development (EBED) offers a teacher training course to help individuals and clubs, affiliated or otherwise, attract new players into duplicate and social Bridge.

During the course, our experienced trainers will explain the methodology of EBED's Bridge for All national learning programme and explore various techniques for introducing new players to the joys - and complexities - of the game.

After completing the course, teachers will be well placed to support a successful club teaching programme offering opportunities to players of all standards. Players can then be integrated into the club as early as possible through a mix of teaching, supervised play and “no fear” duplicates. The responsibility for this falls to the whole club membership.

Joining a Course

We recommend that before you book a place on the course, you have a go at the quiz in this document. This will help reassure you that your Bridge knowledge is appropriate to become an EBTA Associate Club Teacher.

Participants do not need to be members of the English Bridge Union. They should have played duplicate bridge at club level and have a good understanding of the game. It is unlikely that the course will be suitable for anyone with an NGS grading below a 7; but no previous experience of teaching is required.

The cost of this course is heavily subsidised, and is currently £175. EBU affiliated clubs can qualify for a 20% discount for each delegate, providing the booking is made under the clubs EBU Membership and booked via your club Membership Secretary. A list of planned courses can be found at the bottom of this page.

To book a place on one of these courses, please log onto My EBU and select the Book Courses option from the Utilities tab or contact Lisa Miller on 01296 317217. Payment is required at the time of booking.

Courses upon Request

Courses are run around the country in response to enquiries. If you wish to attend a course but no course is scheduled within a reasonable distance from your home, please let us know via email to assist us in our forward planning.

Concessions for EBU Affiliated Clubs

For all bookings received from, invoiced to, and paid by, an EBU affiliated club, a 20% discount applies (this discount is funded by the EBU). The discount is only offered to clubs that are paying for their teachers to attend. There is no limit to the number from each club who can attend. All other bookings are at full price. Places are limited.

Through EBED the EBU is always investing in producing new educational material, with the aim of helping people to learn how to play bridge more quickly and easily and inspire them to join Clubs. This is an objective that EBU Members have indicated should be of the highest priority to safeguard the future of our game. To help EBED and the EBU finance this, the financial support to teacher training in Clubs is being rebalanced, and thus this change has been made.

The course

The course is a two day programme. Each day is divided in to small sessions, each dealing with a certain topic. The sessions involve interactive discussions and practical simulations, and are workshop style.
