National Schools Championship 2025 (formerly the "Young Bridge Challenge")

The 2025 event will be held on Saturday, 1st March

The National Schools Championship is a half-day teams events for school-age bridge players which takes place in Spring each year. The event is held at Loughborough Grammar School (LE11 2DU).

Hosted by EBED this is a half-day bridge event is for young players of all experience levels.

This is a FREE to enter event, players compete in teams of 4, but entries of single players or pairs are also welcomed as we will be able to match these with other players to make a mixed team. A booking form can be found (via the Bridge4Schools website)

A hot meal is provided courtesy of Loughborough Grammar School during the mid sessions break (approx 4pm)

The event format:
Qualifying rounds for all teams (Swiss)
The top 4 teams (who must be from a single school) then play Semi-Finals leading to the Final for the Schools Cup
Swiss Teams The Remaining teams play for the Schools Plate (for teams from a single school) and the Harry Scully Trophy (for mixed school teams)
Separate novice teams competition for less experienced players

Usual schedule for this afternoon event:
Teams should arrive in good time for a prompt 12:45pm start. We are scheduled to finish at 6:30pm.

12:45 - 16:00 --> Swiss Teams (4 x 5 board matches)
16:00 - 16:30 --> Tea Break
16:30 - 18:00 --> Swiss Teams (2 x 5 board matches)
16:30 - 18:20 --> Semi Finals and Finals

Please note the timings above are based on last year but may be varied depending on the numbers of participants.

FOR THE LESS EXPERIENCED Want to play fewer hands and play more slowly? There will also be a novice section team competition, open to those from a bridge playing school and club. You will play short matches against other school teams. This will run throughout the afternoon, with a meal break at around 4pm.
