Haberdashers’ regains Schools Cup

The Young Bridge Challenge, organised by EBED, took place in Loughborough on Saturday 10th March with young players from schools from around the country taking part in bridge and minibridge competitions.

24 teams contested the bridge competition which started with a Swiss Teams, after which the top teams representing a single school went on to a knockout phase to contest the Schools Cup.

This was won by Senthur Shanmugarasa, Ben Lewis, Jack Ronayne, Kavinthan Vickneswaran from Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys School. This was HABS' eighth win in the last nine years, and Jack is the first person to win the competition on four occasions. They beat the defending champions, Liam Sanderson, Theo Gillis, Oscar Selby & Carlos Lapuerta of Westminster School (picture), in the final. HABS B beat Reading in the third place playoff.

The remaining teams continued the Swiss Teams competition. The top finishers were the team of Elizabeth Gahan, Imogen La Chapelle, Alex Pemberton & Andy Cope (picture) and they won the Harry Scully Trophy. The Schools Plate - for the highest finishing team from one school - went to William Clennell, Matthew Wadsworth, David Fryer, Euan Sarson of Reading (picture), after they finished in second place.
